What are carton liner sacks?
Side gusset sacks as carton liners are robust PE film sacks with lateral gussets that are placed inside shipping cartons before the contents go in. They protect food, industrial goods, bulk goods or components from direct contact with the carton and from the ingress of moisture, dust and contaminants. In the industrial and logistics sector they are the standard for all applications that require a double protective layer (carton + film).
The typical area of use: food shipping (flour, baking mixes, powders) in bag-in-box format. Industrial granule shipping with the carton as outer stability and the film as inner protection. Construction material shipping with a carton liner for weather protection. They are the right choice for all applications using the bag-in-box concept.
Our range of carton liner sacks covers typical industrial carton sizes: for standard industrial cartons 30×40×50 cm, 40×50×60 cm up to large cartons 60×80×100 cm. LDPE film 60–100 microns, available food-grade to EU 10/2011.
What are carton liner sacks suitable for?
- Bag-in-box food: flour, powders, baking mixes in industrial cartons
- Industrial granules: plastic granulate, construction chemicals
- Fertiliser & garden: minerals, substrates, powder fertilisers
- Pet food bulk packs: dry food in 10–25 kg cartons
- Cleaning products: powder cleaners in the bag-in-box concept
- Construction materials: dry construction chemicals, filling compounds
Which liner variant is the right one?
- Sack size matched to the carton: internal dimension must fit the carton's internal dimension
- Film thickness 60 microns: light powder applications
- Film thickness 80 microns: standard industrial application
- Film thickness 100 microns: heavy granules, sharp-edged contents
- With side gussets: maximum use of volume
- Food-grade EU 10/2011: bag-in-box food
- Transparent film: visual inspection in the carton system
- Printed: brand branding or batch tracking
Your benefits with carton liner sacks from Elke Plastic
We have imported industrial films directly from the manufacturer since 1976. For carton liners the exact fit is decisive: a sack that is too small tears when filled, one that is too large folds uncontrollably inside the carton. Our suppliers work to precise tolerances.
Our packaging specialists advise on bag-in-box concepts: for food, food-grade liners at 80 microns are optimal. For industrial granules 100 microns. We help with the precise sack-size configuration for your carton sizes.

Frequently asked questions about carton liner sacks
Why would I line a shipping carton with a side gusset sack?
For protection against moisture, dust and dirt: the PE side gusset sack as a carton lining protects moisture-sensitive goods (textiles, paper products, electronics, food) from rain on the loading dock, condensation and soiling in transit. The carton bears the load, the film seals.
How large does the sack for lining need to be?
Sack width ≈ carton width, side gusset ≈ carton depth, plus at least 10 cm overhang for folding over. Better to choose slightly larger so the sack lies crease-free against the carton's inner wall and the lid securely covers the overhang.
Which wall thickness reliably protects against moisture?
Even 50–80 microns is waterproof; for mechanical load (sharp edges, heavy goods, repeated handling) we recommend 80–120 microns. Waterproofness does not depend on the thickness, but puncture safety does.
Can I also protect against condensation with it?
Yes – the PE film keeps out splash and sweat water. For goods that release moisture themselves, combine the lining with a desiccant sachet (silica gel) so that no moisture builds up inside the sack.
How do I close the lined carton?
Fold or twist the overhang over the goods and secure it with adhesive tape, a clip or a weld seam, then close the carton. For full all-round protection, let the overhang overlap completely.
Lining with a sack or with bubble wrap – which makes more sense?
The side gusset sack protects against moisture/dirt and lines in one go; bubble wrap cushions against impact. For moisture protection the liner sack is the faster, cleaner solution – for impact-sensitive goods, combine both.
Is the lining available food-grade?
Yes, food-grade to EU 10/2011 – relevant when food lies directly in the lined carton. Declaration of conformity on request.
Are there suitable sizes from stock or only to measure?
Common carton linings are available from stock with no minimum order value; for special sizes we manufacture to fit your carton internal dimensions exactly. Tell us the width × depth × height of the carton.
