Extra strong ziplock bags – 90 to 100 microns for heavy & sharp-edged contents

Ziplock bags with film thicknesses from 90 to 100 microns – almost twice as strong as standard stock. Shipping-ready, puncture-resistant for heavy or sharp-edged contents, with a particularly hard-wearing closure for frequent closing cycles.

Further variants in this packaging family: ziplock bags overview, transparent ziplock bags and ziplock bags for spare parts – each specialising in a particular material, format or application.

Related ranges for other areas of use: extra strong flat bags, side gusset sacks and tubular film on a roll.

What are extra strong ziplock bags?

Extra strong ziplock bags have a film thickness of 90 to 100 microns – almost twice as strong as the 50-micron standard. This increased material thickness gives the bags crucial robustness for applications where standard stock fails: heavy contents from 500 g, sharp-edged screws or metal parts, rough storage and shipping conditions or frequent reuse in everyday workshop life.

Besides the film thickness, the zip closure itself is built to be more robust. While standard zips can wear out after 100–300 closing cycles, extra strong closures withstand several hundred to a thousand cycles. That makes them ideal for reusable applications: workshop bags from which components are removed again and again over weeks or months; storage bags for screw or small-hardware assortments; food storage bags that are opened frequently.

The LDPE film remains transparent and food-grade (in accordance with EU 10/2011), so extra strong bags are suitable for all areas of use – from industrial shipping packaging to kitchen storage of heavy foods such as hard cheese, frozen meat or pre-portioned dried fruit. They are available in the common standard formats from 80×120 mm to 300×400 mm.

What are extra strong ziplock bags suitable for?

  • Shipping heavy small parts: screw assortments, spare parts, workshop consignments
  • Workshop storage with frequent opening: daily service use, hard-wearing reusable bags
  • Sharp-edged components: metal strips, etched sheets, springs, blade spare parts
  • Heavy foods: hard cheese, frozen meat, pre-portioned dried fruit
  • Industrial granulates: threaded goods, pellets, plastic granulate in 1–5 kg quantities
  • Outdoor and travel use: waterproof packaging of sensitive devices or documents

Which extra strong variant suits you?

  • 90 microns: standard extra strong, considerably more hard-wearing than 50 microns, cost-effective
  • 100 microns: premium robustness for extreme loads or reuse
  • Sizes: from 80×120 mm (small shipping sets) to 300×400 mm (bulk packs)
  • With or without write-on panel: a write-on panel makes storage and shipping handling easier
  • Transparent: all extra strong bags are clear – contents recognisable at once
  • With Euro hole: for hanging display in retail or on a storage pegboard
  • Food-grade: EU 10/2011-compliant for food contact
  • Combined with vacuum sealing: extra strong films are partly vacuum-suitable

Your benefits with extra strong bags from Elke Plastic

We have imported ziplock bags since 1976 and know the quality differences in detail: a 90-micron film is not automatically a good 90-micron film – the impact strength, puncture resistance and closure quality vary considerably between suppliers. Our suppliers meet the strict requirements for consistently high material quality, so you can rely on reproducible performance.

In shipping applications in particular, material quality is a direct cost factor: every torn bag in shipping means the cost of a complaint, reputational damage and re-dispatch. With extra strong bags you significantly reduce the risk of damage – at a small surcharge over standard stock. Our packaging specialists help you find the right film thickness for your weight-to-volume ratio.

Dispatch is from our German warehouse. Extra strong standard sizes are usually available immediately. All customers – B2B and B2C alike – receive volume pricing for bulk-pack quantities. Free samples are available on request – so you can run a stress test with your real application before placing a main order.

Frequently asked questions about extra strong ziplock bags

What does “extra strong” mean for ziplock bags?

Extra strong refers to a film thickness of 90 to 100 microns – almost twice as strong as standard ziplock bags (50 microns). The material is considerably more resistant to puncturing, tearing and mechanical stress. The zip closure itself is also built to be more robust and withstands more closing cycles.

When is an extra strong bag worthwhile?

Essentially in three scenarios: (1) shipping heavy or sharp-edged contents where standard stock would tear, (2) workshop and storage applications with frequent reuse, (3) premium storage of food or valuable components where a low risk of damage is a priority.

Is the film thickness noticeable?

Yes, the greater weight and firmer feel are clearly apparent. Compared with 50-micron standard bags, extra strong bags feel almost like a small shipping pouch. That conveys quality when the packaging itself is part of how the product is perceived.

Are extra strong bags suitable for shipping?

Yes, from 90 microns they are generally suitable for German parcel shipping. For heavy or pointed contents we recommend combining them with a padded shipping envelope or carton – the bags themselves then also withstand rough sorting machinery.

Do extra strong bags withstand vacuum sealing?

For light vacuum sealing, 90–100 micron LDPE bags are partly suitable, although LDPE does not have an optimal oxygen barrier. For genuine vacuum sealing with long-term preservation we recommend PA/PE vacuum bags as a specialist category.

Are they food-grade?

Yes, all extra strong LDPE ziplock bags in our range are food-grade in accordance with EU 10/2011. They are suitable for direct food-contact applications such as cheese, frozen meat or dry goods.

Which sizes are available?

We stock extra strong bags in the common standard formats from 80×120 mm to 300×400 mm. Special formats can also be made on request – the minimum quantity depends on the print and closure configuration.

How many closing cycles do extra strong closures withstand?

Several hundred to a thousand cycles under normal use. In everyday workshop practice that means years of use without wear. For extreme applications (several times a day) we recommend 100-micron premium variants with a reinforced closure.

Can I write on extra strong bags?

Yes, easily with permanent markers. For frequent labelling we recommend variants with a write-on panel – the printed field adheres better and makes reading easier.

What is the environmental footprint?

Extra strong bags use more material per unit, but last longer and reduce the risk of damage in shipping. Anyone who can replace several standard bags with one extra strong bag (reuse) saves material overall. For explicitly sustainable requirements we also have PCR recycled-content and mono-material variants in our range.

What is the surcharge compared with standard stock?

Extra strong bags are usually 30–60 % more expensive than 50-micron standard stock. When it comes to avoiding damage in shipping, that quickly pays off – a single torn bag with the cost of a complaint often offsets several hundred cents of surcharge.
