What are flat bags for textiles?

Flat bags for textiles are specifically tailored to the requirements of clothing and home-textile packaging. Textiles have unique packaging requirements: they are often large in volume but not heavy, crease in too tight a pack, need protection from dirt and moisture, but should at the same time be breathable enough not to create water-vapour problems. The right packaging choice is a balanced compromise between protection and breathable storage.

In online textile retail, flat bags are the standard for packing the individual order. They protect the textiles from soiling during shipping, adapt to the irregular contours of clothing thanks to their form, and are cost-effective enough for thousands of consignments per month. For premium brands there are variants with a self-adhesive closure that turn the bag into a professional mailing pouch. For sustainable fashion brands, PCR recyclate variants are available that make the recycling promise visible.

Our textile flat bag range covers the most important standard sizes: 300×400 mm (jumpers), 400×500 mm (jackets), 400×600 mm (trousers), 500×700 mm (multi-item consignments). Film thicknesses of 50–70 microns are usual – thick enough for protection, thin enough for breathable storage. On request with a self-adhesive closure for ready-to-ship packaging, or without for classic sealing. Food-grade status is not mandatory, but is included as standard. Antistatic variants are available for sensitive synthetic-fibre materials.

Your benefits with textile flat bags from Elke Plastic

We have imported packaging bags directly from the manufacturer since 1976. For online textile retailers this means: reliable standard goods in the common textile standard sizes, available from stock in pallet quantities. For high-volume online shops we are happy to arrange call-off quotas and delivery schedules, so you are never left without packaging.

Our packaging specialists advise on special variants: for a premium shipping look, smooth high-gloss films with a self-adhesive closure are optimal. For sports and outdoor textiles we recommend antistatic variants. For sustainable brands, PCR recyclate or bio-PE variants are available – with a visible recycling signal as a marketing advantage.

Frequently asked questions about textile flat bags

Which size do I need for jumpers?

As standard 300×400 mm. For particularly large or oversized jumpers we recommend 400×500 mm. For women's jumpers 300×400 mm is usually ideal, for men's jumpers and oversize 400×500 mm.

Which size for jackets?

400×500 mm for standard jackets (bombers, leather jackets), 400×600 mm for coat-style jackets or longer models. For outdoor jackets (down jackets, large anoraks) 500×700 mm should be chosen – otherwise the jackets are constricted and crease.

Do textiles crease in flat bags?

With the right size choice: minimally. It is important that the textiles are not heavily compressed. Choosing one size larger than a tight fit prevents creasing. For premium textiles we additionally recommend folding in tissue paper before flat-bag packing.

Are the bags breathable?

LDPE film is not fully breathable, but with normal closing techniques (adhesive tape, knotting, heat sealing) enough air exchange usually remains for short-term storage. For long-term storage we recommend perforated film variants.

What is a self-adhesive closure?

An adhesive-strip flap fitted along the bag opening that, after filling, is folded over the bag and stuck onto the other bag half. This turns the bag into a ready-to-ship pouch without additional adhesive tape. For online shipping, a clear efficiency advantage.

How waterproof are the bags?

Standard LDPE is splash-proof and protects against brief rain exposure during shipping. For full rain protection over a longer period we recommend padded mailing envelopes or additional outer packaging.

Are the bags UV-resistant?

For short-term shipping use, no problem. For longer outdoor storage, sensitive colours can fade – this applies to the packaging as well as the contents. UV-stable special variants are available on request.

Can the bags be printed with a brand logo?

Yes. For online textile retailers, own printing is a clear brand advantage. The large shipping surface makes brand branding visible. Mineral-oil-free printing inks are standard. Run sizes determine the price.

Are sustainable textile bags available?

Yes, PCR-recycled variants with 30–80% PCR content are available in the common textile standard sizes. For sustainable fashion brands these are visible recycling signals.

Do the bags also hold up via DHL parcel shipping?

Yes, from 50 microns fundamentally shipping-suitable. For consignments with delicate or high-value contents we recommend additional padded mailing envelopes or carton outer packaging.

Can several textiles be packed in one bag?

Yes, large-format bags (500×700 mm upwards) are suitable for multi-item consignments – e.g. an outfit set. The textiles should not be compressed too much, to avoid creasing.

Which film thickness is standard for online shipping?

50 microns is standard for light textiles, 70 microns for robust shipping. For high-value consignments or heavy goods we recommend 90 microns. The film thickness also influences the perceived brand promise – thin film looks cheaper than thick.
