This is used to manufacture a plastic obtained from renewable and
natural raw materials (e.g. corn starch).

  • compostable
  • transparent-milky / 50 microns

Nachhaltigkeit

Recycling film packaging is an important step worldwide to reduce plastic waste and keep valuable raw materials in circulation. Everyone can contribute: carefully separate film packaging from other waste, remove food residues and dispose of it via the designated collection systems. Modern recycling plants transform clean material into new granulate, from which packaging, bags or technical films are made again. Every correctly disposed-of film means less waste in nature, less resource consumption and a cleaner future – everywhere in the world.

The Biodegradable Flat Bags PLA 50 microns are flat, closure-free packaging bags made from PLA – a bioplastic based on renewable raw materials – with a 50 microns material thickness. They are crystal-clear and industrially compostable to EN 13432, making them the sustainable alternative wherever conventional PE film is to be replaced by a compostable material.

What the PLA flat bags are used for

PLA flat bags are intended for suppliers who want to bring packaging and a sustainability commitment together. They are suitable for dry, non-greasy foods and products with a green brand promise.

  • Food packing: spices, tea, dry products, loose goods
  • Organic shops, zero-waste concepts and sustainable brand presentations
  • Visible packaging where compostability is to be highlighted

Material and properties

PLA (polylactide) is obtained from renewable raw materials and is crystal-clear, so you can see the contents fully. Unlike PE, PLA is industrially compostable to EN 13432 – it breaks down in industrial composting plants, not in home compost and not in the PE recycling stream. For food, the bags are suitable under EU 10/2011 and EC 1935/2004 (declaration of conformity PIM on request). PLA is more temperature-sensitive than PE and is not designed for freezer or hot applications.

When PLA is the right choice

Choose PLA when industrial compostability to EN 13432 is your goal and your contents are dry and temperature-uncritical. If, on the other hand, you are concerned with recyclability rather than composting, the rLDPE flat bags with recycled content 50 microns with GRS recyclate are the suitable alternative in the PE stream. If you need freezer suitability or high mechanical strength, the LDPE flat bags are more robust. So what matters is less the "sustainable" label than the specific recovery route that fits your concept.

Ordering and storage notes

PLA is more temperature-sensitive and mechanically less yielding than PE, so store the bags cool, dry and out of permanent sunlight. You order them as stock items with no minimum order value; shipping from our German warehouse usually takes 1–3 working days, and before your first order we are happy to send you free samples so you can check clarity and feel. We produce custom formats in PLA from a minimum quantity.

Frequently asked questions about the biodegradable PLA flat bags 50 microns

How are the PLA bags disposed of correctly?

Industrially compostable to EN 13432 – they belong in industrial composting, not in home compost and not in the PE recycling stream. Observe the regional requirements of your waste disposal provider, as acceptance of bioplastic is handled differently locally.

What does "biodegradable" mean here in concrete terms?

The bag breaks down under the defined conditions of an industrial composting plant – this is verified via the EN 13432 standard. It does not mean that it reliably disintegrates in nature or in garden compost.

What is PLA made of?

PLA (polylactide) is a bioplastic made from renewable raw materials. It is crystal-clear and therefore visually close to conventional display film, but designed for compostability rather than recycling in the PE stream.

Are the PLA bags food-grade?

Yes, under EU 10/2011 and EC 1935/2004. The declaration of conformity (PIM) is available on request. They are best suited for dry, not heavily greasy foods.

Can I freeze the PLA bags or fill them hot?

No. PLA is more temperature-sensitive than PE and is designed for neither freezing nor hot filling. For cold use, the LDPE flat bags are a better choice.

PLA or rLDPE with recycled content – which is more sustainable?

That depends on the disposal route. PLA relies on industrial composting (EN 13432); rLDPE relies on GRS-certified recycled content and stays in the PE recycling stream. Choose according to the recovery route that fits your concept.

Are the PLA bags as tear-resistant as LDPE?

PLA is less stretchable and mechanically more sensitive than soft LDPE. For dry, light contents the 50 microns thickness is plenty; for heavy or sharp-edged goods the stronger LDPE variants are more robust.

Which sizes are available?

You will find the available formats in the order table above. We produce custom formats in PLA from a minimum quantity.

Are there free samples?

Yes. Before your first order we send you samples so you can check the clarity and feel of the PLA bags.
