What are slider bags for food?
Slider bags for food are the specialised variant for the kitchen, freezer and meal prep. They differ from classic ziplock bags through the sliding closure: a plastic slider is pulled along the closure rail and reliably presses the profile together. This makes the closure tighter and easier to use – especially with moist or oily hands during food preparation – and more secure against leaking.
The typical use: freezer storage with frequent reuse. Standard freezer bags with a ziplock closure wear out after 30–50 closing cycles, whereas slider bags manage several hundred cycles. For families who fill their freezer with reused bags, or for professional kitchens with meal-prep approaches, they are considerably more practical than standard ziplock bags. They are also ideal for marinade applications (marinating meat) – the waterproof sliding closure prevents the marinade from leaking out.
Our slider bags for food range covers the typical kitchen and professional standard sizes: 200×300 mm (single portions, salads), 250×350 mm (family portions), 300×400 mm (large freezer portions). Film thicknesses of 80–100 microns are common – more robust than a standard ziplock closure, ideal for freezer cold resistance. Food-grade compliance to EU 10/2011 is standard. We supply declarations of conformity on request.

Your benefits with food slider bags from Elke Plastic
We have been importing packaging bags directly from the manufacturer since 1976. For food slider bags, the quality of the sliding closure is decisive: in everyday kitchen use, the bags are opened and closed several times a week. A defective slider leads to leaking in the freezer or contamination in the fridge. Our suppliers meet the strict requirements for consistent slider function over hundreds of cycles.
Our packaging specialists advise on kitchen and professional applications: for freezer families, 80 microns with a write-on panel is optimal (date tracking). For marinade applications we recommend 100 microns, waterproof. For professional kitchens with high-frequency use, extra strong variants are preferable.

Frequently asked questions about food slider bags
What is the difference between a slider and a ziplock closure?
A slider closure seals via a slider that is pulled along the rail – tighter and easier to use, especially with wet hands. A ziplock closure seals by pressing two profiles together with the fingers. For kitchen use involving moisture, the slider closure is superior.
Are the bags freezer-suitable?
Yes, cold-resistant down to -40 °C. No problem for a regular freezer (-18 °C). Also suitable for industrial freezing (-25 to -30 °C).
Are the bags suitable for marinade applications?
Yes, the waterproof sliding closure prevents the marinade from escaping. Meat or vegetables can be marinated in the bag and stored sealed in the fridge.
How often can I open and close the closure?
Typically 200–500 closing cycles – sufficient for several seasons. Under extreme use (several times a day), individual slider defects can occur.
Are the bags food-grade?
Yes, EU 10/2011-compliant. Approved for direct food contact.
Can the bags be heated in the microwave?
No. Standard LDPE melts at over 100 °C. For microwave applications we recommend special PP films.
Are the bags suitable for sous-vide?
No. For sous-vide applications we recommend PA/PE vacuum films. Standard LDPE slider bags are not heat-resistant to sous-vide temperatures.
Can the bags be labelled?
Yes, with permanent markers. For frequent labelling we recommend variants with a printed write-on panel.
Are the bags suitable for storing cheese and sausage?
Yes, very well. The tight sliding closure keeps the aroma in the bag and protects against drying out. For vacuum packaging, sealed edge bags (PA/PE) are even more suitable.
Which film thickness is optimal?
80 microns for standard use, 100 microns for heavy or sharp-edged contents. For premium professional kitchen applications with the highest load, we recommend 100 microns.
Are sustainable variants available?
Yes, PCR-recycled variants with 30–80% PCR content are available. Mono-PE variants are not practical, as the sliding closure is made of PP (a separate material class).
Which quantities make sense?
Stock items in standard sizes are available from stock. For private households, packs of 100; for professional kitchens, 500–1000 units. Custom printing becomes worthwhile from larger print runs.
