What are stand-up pouches for tea?
Stand-up pouches for tea are self-standing doypacks made from multi-layer composite film, designed specifically for the requirements of loose tea. Tea is an extremely aroma-sensitive natural product – essential oils evaporate quickly, moisture destroys the bouquet and UV light accelerates ageing. Stand-up pouches for tea address exactly these weak points with a high-barrier structure of PET, aluminum or metallised PET and a heat-sealable PE or PE-EVOH inner layer.
The classic doypack structure with a foldable base brings several advantages: the pouch stands upright on the shelf and turns black tea, green tea, herbal tea or fruit tea into a visible brand presentation. At the same time, the closed film protects the product from oxygen and moisture – two factors that dramatically reduce shelf life with tea. Resealable zip closures considerably extend freshness even after first opening, which is why almost all premium tea brands rely on this type of packaging.
Our stand-up pouches for tea are available in sizes from 50 g (sample packs) up to 1 kg (family or catering containers). Food-grade compliance in accordance with EU 10/2011 is standard. On request with a window for product presentation, a matt or glossy surface for individual labels, and in sustainable variants with a mono-material structure for improved recyclability.
What are stand-up pouches for tea suitable for?
- Loose black and green tea: aroma-safe packaging for premium single-origin or classic house blends
- Herbal and fruit teas: voluminous contents with high aroma density need a stable doypack form
- Tea gift sets & artisan editions: window or matt finish for an elegant sales presentation
- Organic & wellness teas: mono-material or bio-PE variants underline the natural brand claim
- Sports & fitness blends: matcha, detox or mate tea in functional doypacks
- Catering & cafes: bulk containers 500 g–1 kg for loose serving and bistro sales
Which stand-up pouch for tea is the right one?
- Fill volume 50–100 g: sample packs, single editions, prize sets
- Fill volume 100–250 g: standard consumer packaging for black and green tea
- Fill volume 250 g–1 kg: family, catering or refill packs
- Barrier structure: aluminum composite for maximum aroma protection, or metallised PET for the mid-price segment
- Window yes/no: a clear window shows tea leaves and fruits – a strong selling point
- Closure: a zip closure for resealability is standard in the tea segment
- Appearance: a matt finish looks elegant/handmade, high gloss stands for a modern premium look

Frequently Asked Questions about Stand-Up Pouches for Tea
Why are stand-up pouches so widespread for tea?
Tea is very sensitive to oxygen, moisture and UV light. Stand-up pouches with an aluminum or high-barrier composite film reliably isolate the product, and the resealable zip makes them practical in the consumer's home too. They also stand on the shelf and are immediately recognisable as a premium product.
Which sizes are common in the tea segment?
In consumer retail, 100 g and 250 g dominate; in the premium segment, 50 g sample packs and 500 g catering containers are also widespread. For refill concepts, 1 kg doypacks are sometimes used.
With or without a window?
Both have their place. Windows show the leaves and fruits and increase purchase motivation – especially for fruit teas. Fully closed pouches shield UV light better and are the better choice for light-sensitive varieties (matcha, green tea).
Can I pack tea in bio-PE doypacks?
Yes, bio-PE from sugar cane is food-grade and biologically identical to conventional PE. For aroma-sensitive teas, however, we recommend a high-barrier composite, as pure PE does not offer the necessary aroma barrier.
How long does tea keep in a stand-up pouch?
With clean initial sealing and a zip closure, most teas reach 18–24 months of shelf life. Aroma-intensive varieties (Earl Grey, matcha) should be used within 6–12 months.
Which labelling is mandatory for tea packaging?
Mandatory food information in accordance with the Food Information Regulation: name, list of ingredients, net fill quantity, best-before date, responsible party, allergens. For organic tea, additionally the EU organic logo and the inspection-body code.
What printing is possible?
We offer individual printing in rotogravure or digital print – from a single-colour logo to a full-surface high-gloss look. Mineral-oil-free and food-grade inks are standard, FSC and organic certification optional.
Are stand-up pouches for tea recyclable?
Conventional composite films with aluminum are only recyclable to a limited extent (residual waste). For full recyclability we recommend mono-material doypacks (mono-PE or mono-PP) – these run with the PE stream via the recycling bin.
Can I order smaller tea-artisan runs?
Yes. We keep standard doypacks in stock, so you can easily obtain 100 or 200 pieces without printing too. Your own printing pays off from larger quantities.
Which material variants for sensitive varieties (matcha)?
Matcha is extremely sensitive to oxidation and light. Ideal are high-barrier aluminum composites without a window, printed in dark colours. A zip closure is almost essential here.
