What are transparent flat bags?
Transparent flat bags are the universal packaging solution in the packaging bag range. They are made from crystal-clear LDPE film and have no integrated closures – after filling they are sealed with adhesive tape, a heat sealer, a clip band or simply folded over. The transparent film has a decisive practical advantage: the contents are recognisable at a glance, without the bag having to be opened. This makes them an indispensable tool in the kitchen, the warehouse, the workshop, the hobby room and shipping.
The breadth of application is enormous: pre-portioning food in the home, shipping small hardware items, storing craft and hobby materials, pre-portioned components in the professional kitchen, enclosure bags for online shipping, industrial ranges in the workshop – wherever a simple, transparent and cost-effective single-use packaging is needed, flat bags are the standard.
Our range of transparent flat bags is one of the largest on the market: over 40 standard formats from 60×80 mm (the smallest standard size) to 600×800 mm (large containers), film thicknesses from 25 microns (extra thin, cost-optimised) to 100 microns (extra strong). Food-grade compliance in accordance with EU 10/2011 is standard. On request with a Euro hole for hanging display or without for pure shipping applications. Special formats are easily possible from a larger order quantity upwards.

Your benefits with transparent flat bags from Elke Plastic
We have been importing transparent flat bags directly from the manufacturer since 1976. For you that means: 40+ standard sizes ex warehouse, in several film thicknesses, with consistent film quality across every batch. Our suppliers meet the strict requirements for clear-view quality – a cloudy or distorted film defeats its purpose of showing the contents immediately.
Our packaging specialists advise on the right film thickness and size: for hobby and sorting applications, extra-thin 25–40 micron bags are sufficient; for the kitchen and light shipping, 50 microns; for freezing or heavy consignments, 70–90 microns. That way you do not get oversized standard stock but the optimum packaging for your use case.
Dispatch is from our German warehouse. Transparent standard sizes are usually in stock; custom-made items are scheduled accordingly. No minimum order value. B2B and workshop customers receive tiered pricing. Free samples for advance checking are of course available.
Frequently asked questions about transparent flat bags
What is the difference between a flat bag and a ziplock bag?
Flat bags have no integrated closure – after filling they are sealed with adhesive tape, a heat sealer or a clip band. Ziplock bags have an integrated zip closure that can be opened and closed repeatedly. Flat bags are cheaper per unit and ideal for single-use applications.
Which film thickness is the right one?
Rule of thumb: 50 microns for standard kitchen and hobby use. 70 microns for freezing and light shipping. 90 microns for heavy or sharp-edged contents. Extra thin 25–40 microns only for sorting and collector applications where there is no mechanical load.
Are the bags food-grade?
Yes, all standard LDPE flat bags in our range are food-grade in accordance with EU 10/2011. They are suitable for direct food-contact applications such as freezing, cheese and frozen meat.
How are flat bags sealed?
With adhesive tape, a heat sealer, a clip band or simply by folding over. Heat sealers are the professional solution for volume applications, while adhesive tape is the hobby cure-all.
Can the bags be used in a microwave-freezer combination?
Freezer yes, microwave NO. LDPE melts at over 100 °C – not microwave-safe. For microwave-safe bags there are special PP films.
How many film thicknesses are in standard stock?
Typically 25, 40, 50, 70 and 90 microns in the common standard sizes. 100 microns as a premium extra strong option in top standard sizes. For special film thicknesses, contact us with your individual requirements.
Are bags with a Euro hole more expensive?
A minimal surcharge due to the additional punching step in production. For pegboard or hanging display, the surcharge almost always pays off.
How many units fit in a pack?
Depending on bag size and film thickness, 500–5000 units. For standard stock in standard sizes, packs of 1000 are common ex warehouse. For larger quantities, pallet configuration is available.
Are very small quantities possible?
Yes, you can order standard stock from 1 pack (typically 500–1000 units). For custom printing or special film thicknesses there are minimum quantities – we advise on run-size calculations.
Can the bags be printed with a logo?
Yes. Custom printing in gravure or flexographic printing. For smaller runs, labelling with self-adhesive labels is usually the flexible alternative.
Are sustainable variants available?
Yes. PCR-recycled and bio-PE flat bags are available in the common standard sizes. For brands with a sustainability positioning we recommend the sustainable category of our range.
