What Are Adhesion Seal Bags With Air Hole?
Adhesion seal bags with air hole are the specialised variant for applications where fully airtight packaging would be problematic. The film is perforated with small micro-holes that allow a controlled air exchange. This is particularly important for fresh baked goods: bread, rolls and fresh pastries release residual moisture during storage. In an airtight package, condensation forms, the base turns soggy and the baked goods spoil more quickly. With an air hole, the moisture escapes in a controlled way, and the baked goods stay crisp and fresh.
Even in the air-hole variant, the OPP film is highly transparent and strong for presentation. The holes themselves are so small that they are barely visible from a normal viewing distance – they do not affect the visual impact. For bakeries, patisseries and all food workshops with fresh products, these bags are the right choice. In direct sales and online shipping of fresh baked goods, they are the standard.
Our adhesion seal bags with air hole range covers the typical baked goods sizes: 150×220 mm (single rolls, croissants), 200×300 mm (sliced bread set, medium-sized baked goods), 300×400 mm (whole loaf, bakery assortments). OPP film 30–40 microns, food-grade to EU 10/2011, with an adhesive flap for easy sealing. On request with your own brand print for bakery branding.

Your Benefits With Air-Hole Adhesion Seal Bags From Elke Plastic
We have been importing packaging bags directly from the manufacturer since 1976. For baked goods packaging, the air-hole configuration is decisive: too few or too small holes lead to condensation; too large or too many holes reduce protection from contamination and accelerate drying out. Our suppliers work with optimised hole configurations.
Our packaging specialists advise on baked goods applications: for rolls and croissants, smaller bags with a denser hole configuration are optimal. For loaves you need larger bags with an even hole distribution. For premium baked goods we recommend a matt OPP finish with embossed brand logos.

Frequently Asked Questions About Air-Hole Adhesion Seal Bags
Why do I need air holes for baked goods?
Fresh baked goods release residual moisture. Without air exchange, condensation forms inside the bag, the base turns soggy and mould growth is accelerated. With air holes, the moisture escapes in a controlled way, and the baked goods stay crisp and fresh.
Do the baked goods stay fresh for longer?
Compared with fully sealed bags, yes – considerably. Compared with open storage (with no protection from dust and contamination), they additionally offer hygienic protection. For 1–2 days of freshness they are ideal; for longer storage we recommend freezing without an air hole.
How many holes does a standard bag have?
Typically 30–60 micro-holes per bag, evenly distributed. The exact number depends on the bag size and application. Our standard stock is optimised for typical baked goods applications.
Are the holes visible?
The micro-holes are typically 1–2 mm in size and barely visible from a normal viewing distance. The crystal-clear effect of the OPP film is fully retained.
Can the bags be used for other applications too?
Yes. With an air hole they are suitable for all applications that require controlled breathing – fresh flower arrangements, breathable plant packaging, sliced cold cuts. They are not suitable for airtight applications (coffee, spices).
Are the bags waterproof?
With air holes, NOT fully waterproof – moisture can enter and escape through the holes. For waterproof applications we recommend standard adhesion seal bags without an air hole.
How are the bags sealed?
With the adhesive flap, identical to standard adhesion seal bags. The adhesive flap itself is not perforated – the seal is tight. Air only escapes through the air holes in the film surface.
Are the bags food-grade?
Yes, OPP and the adhesive are compliant with EU 10/2011. They are approved for direct food applications (bread, rolls, fresh baked goods).
Can the bags be printed with a logo?
Yes. Bakery logo, mandatory information and best-before stamps can be printed. The air holes themselves do not affect printing. For premium bakeries we recommend a matt OPP finish with high-contrast designs.
Are sustainable variants available?
Yes, OPP is a recyclable mono-material film. For explicitly sustainable applications we offer PCR-recycled OPP variants. For bio-based applications there are bio-PP variants made from sugar cane.
Which quantities make sense for small bakeries?
Stock items in standard sizes are available by the box. For custom printing with a bakery logo, larger runs are worthwhile. We advise on run-size calculations.
Do loaves lose aroma in air-hole bags?
Hardly. The air holes are small enough to let only the released moisture escape, so the bread aroma is essentially retained. For maximum aroma retention we nonetheless recommend baked goods used promptly or frozen storage.
