What is patisserie packaging?

Patisserie packaging is premium packaging for pralines, cakes, macarons, confectionery and fine patisserie. Unlike bakery packaging, the focus here is on a premium look — patisserie products are marketed visually and are often given as gifts.

The packaging therefore serves a dual function: protecting the often delicate confectionery assortments, and acting as a brand carrier with a wedding or gift feel. Typical materials: kraft paper with a window, crystal-clear OPP film, metallised premium films, cake boxes.

All packaging is certified for direct food contact in accordance with EU 10/2011 and the LMIV (Food Information Regulation). Declaration of conformity on request.

What is patisserie packaging suitable for?

  • Pralines and confectionery: boxes with a window or transparent OPP bags for visual presentation.
  • Macaron assortments: special boxes with inner inserts to keep them in place.
  • Cakes and gateaux: cake boxes with or without a window, classically in white or natural kraft paper.
  • Wedding confectionery: premium cone bags or twist-wrap film in a gold/silver look.
  • Gift assortments: premium carrier bags with a ribbon fitting and hot-foil stamping.
  • Patisserie and petits fours: small boxes with bespoke brand printing in gravure.

Which patisserie packaging variants are available?

The world of patisserie packaging includes specialised formats with a premium look:

  • Praline boxes with a window: cardboard with a transparent front, the standard for 4/6/12-piece praline assortments.
  • Cake boxes: sturdy cardboard construction in white or kraft paper, with or without a window.
  • Macaron boxes: special inner inserts for these fragile confectionery specialities.
  • Cone bags: classic confectionery packaging in premium paper quality.
  • Crystal-clear OPP bags: for transparent assortment packaging with full visibility.
  • Metallised films: a premium look with a gold/silver sheen for gift assortments.
  • Twist-wrap films: for individual sweets and caramel confectionery with a twist closure.

Material properties of patisserie packaging in detail

Patisserie packaging is premium packaging for pralines, cakes, confectionery, macarons and fine sweet pastries. Look and protection are equally important — visual presentation determines the sale.

Kraft paper 80–120 g/m² — premium look

Natural paper in high-quality artisan grade. Printable with high-resolution brand designs. Standard for praline packaging, macaron assortments and patisserie carrier bags.

Kraft paper with a window

Kraft paper on the outside, with a transparent OPP window on the front. It shows off the look of the confectionery while protecting against grease bleed-through. The classic patisserie praline packaging.

OPP film 30–40 microns — crystal-clear transparent

Crystal-clear polypropylene film for full confectionery visibility. Standard for praline assortments, wedding confectionery and bespoke assortment packaging.

Cake boxes and cake lifters

Sturdy cardboard boxes with a window, individually printable. Standard formats for 4, 6, 8 and 12-piece praline assortments. With or without a window for visual presentation.

Metallised premium films

For luxury confectionery with a golden-sheen look: vacuum-metallised films (not solid aluminum) with high visual value. Popular for wedding confectionery and gift assortments.

Food suitability

All materials are certified for direct food contact in accordance with EU 10/2011. Declaration of conformity on request.

Bespoke customisation — patisserie branding and a premium look

Patisserie packaging is a carrier of a patisserie brand's identity — a premium look and bespoke printing are at the heart of brand positioning.

Printing in gravure or offset with up to 8 colours, including Pantone spot colours, metallic effects, hot-foil stamping and partial high-gloss or soft-touch varnish.

Packaging formats and special sizes

We manufacture praline boxes, cake boxes, cone bags, gift bags and assortment packaging in bespoke sizes for 1, 4, 6, 8, 12 or more confectionery units.

Finishing and windows

Optionally with hot-foil stamping, soft-touch varnish, an integrated window and a fitting for gift ribbons. Premium patisserie packaging to a wedding standard.

Sustainability — recycling patisserie packaging

Patisserie packaging is environmentally advantageous when it is paper-based or mono-PP-based — both materials are well established in the German recycling system.

Paper recycling

Kraft paper patisserie packaging is fully recyclable in the paper stream. Cardboard cake boxes and praline boxes also remain paper-recyclable, provided they do not contain extensive plastic components.

OPP films and PP recycling

Pure OPP film packaging can be recovered in the PP recycling stream. NIR-detectable in German sorting plants and RecyClass-compliant.

Metallised films and the PPWR

Under the current PPWR interpretation, vacuum-metallised films are recoverable in material recycling, provided the metal layer stays below 0.1 microns. Still permitted for a premium look.

FSC certification for premium brands

Patisserie brands often value FSC-certified paper as a mark of sustainability. On request, we supply all paper patisserie packaging FSC-certified.

Frequently asked questions about patisserie packaging

Which packaging for pralines?

For high-quality praline manufacture we recommend block bottom bags with a window (elegant box look, contents visible) or stand-up pouches with a window (can be presented upright). For praline boxes, add gift paper or carrying ribbons.

Which packaging for macarons?

Macarons are delicate – pressure and moisture jeopardise their shape and texture. Ideal: small block bottom bags with a window in matching sizes, individually wrapped in a food-grade flat bag. Add a cardboard inlay for shipping.

Which packaging for cake portions?

For take-away cake slices, food-grade flat bags (with a cardboard base) or a patisserie box with a window are ideal. For whole mini cakes, use stand-up pouches with a window.

Is patisserie packaging food-grade?

Yes – all patisserie packaging meets EU 10/2011, and often LFGB as well. We send the declaration of conformity on request. For pralines with an alcohol filling, check resistance to ethanol explicitly.

Can the packaging be printed with our logo?

Yes – with your patisserie logo, seasonal designs and mandatory information. Printing methods: flexographic printing (economical), gravure printing (premium), digital printing (small quantities, multi-colour). → Request a bespoke order.

Which packaging for chocolate?

Chocolate is sensitive to light, heat and aromas. For bars: food-grade flat bags made from laminate film. For pralines: block bottom bags with a window. For chocolate specialities with alcohol or a particularly delicate confectionery filling, use an aluminum laminate for maximum protection.

Which packaging for wedding pralines?

For wedding favours, small, elegant patisserie bags with a window or a kraft paper look are ideal, combined with ribbons and card tags. Adjust quantities per guest (3–5 pralines). Personalised engraving on request.

What is the difference between patisserie and bakery packaging?

Bakery packaging is functional (bread, rolls, take-away – often cone bags, paper carrier bags). Patisserie packaging is presentation-focused (windows, premium materials, elegant printing). → Bakery packaging.

Which packaging for shipping Christmas biscuits?

For shipping Christmas biscuits, food-grade flat bags (individually) in a shipping box or larger stand-up pouches with a window are ideal. A decorative sticker design turns it into a gift parcel.

Is there sustainable patisserie packaging?

Yes – kraft paper carrier bags, kraft paper block bottom bags and natron kraft paper bags are bio-based and compostable or recyclable. More in our Sustainable Packaging range.

Which sizes are typical for praline packaging?

For 4–6 pralines: approx. 80×120 mm. For 9–12 pralines: 120×180 mm. For assortment boxes (16–24 pralines): 180×240 mm. Exact sizes are in the block bottom bags with a window overview.

How do I seal patisserie packaging?

High-quality options: a twist closure with a decorative ribbon, a wax seal, or a sticker closure with your logo. For heat-seal options, see sealed edge bags. For repeated opening, use a ziplock or zip in the stand-up pouch variant.

Can small home bakers order too?

Yes, absolutely. We also supply standard quantities – ideal for home patisserie sales, wedding catering, a Christmas market stall or homemade gifts. No minimum order in our standard range.

Which packaging for cupcakes or muffins?

For cupcakes and muffins, small stand-up pouches with a window are ideal – they can be presented upright with the contents visible. For shipping, add a cardboard base to protect the toppings.
