Nachhaltigkeit

Recycling film packaging is an important step worldwide to reduce plastic waste and keep valuable raw materials in circulation. Everyone can contribute: carefully separate film packaging from other waste, remove food residues and dispose of it via the designated collection systems. Modern recycling plants transform clean material into new granulate, from which packaging, bags or technical films are made again. Every correctly disposed-of film means less waste in nature, less resource consumption and a cleaner future – everywhere in the world.

The biodegradable ziplock bags made from PLA, 50 microns, without write-on panel are crystal-clear zip bags made from plant-based polylactic-acid plastic. They are industrially compostable to EN 13432 and combine a resealable double-lip closure with disposal via the organic-waste bin.

What the compostable PLA bags are suitable for

PLA is the choice when you need sustainable, bio-based packaging with a clear look. The bags suit anywhere that content and packaging should match the green product world:

  • Coffee and tea: aroma and display packaging for roasted coffee, specialty coffee, black, green and herbal tea
  • Spices and dry products in sustainable packing
  • Bakeries and farm shops where organic aspiration and packaging should match

Material and compostability

PLA (polylactide) is obtained from renewable raw materials and is crystal-clear like a conventional film bag. Decisive is the certification to EN 13432: the bag is industrially compostable and belongs in the organic-waste bin after use, not in home compost. It is food-grade to EC 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011; the declaration of conformity (PIM) is available on request. Note: PLA is less heat- and moisture-resistant than PE and not designed for freezing or hot filling.

PLA vs. conventional and recyclate bags

You choose the PLA bags when industrial compostability is the goal. If, on the other hand, you want to use recyclate and recycle in the PE stream, the rLDPE bags with recyclate content are the suitable route. For pure robustness or freezing, classic LDPE remains the right choice. The 50-micron thickness covers light to medium contents.

Communicating sustainability correctly

Compostability is only a real advantage if the disposal fits — so it is worth making the route clear to your customers. The PLA bags are industrially compostable to EN 13432 and belong in the organic-waste bin; in a home compost heap or the recycling bag they are out of place. For a credible organic or specialty brand, exactly this transparency is valuable: plant-based raw material, crystal-clear look and a defined composting route make a coherent packaging picture for coffee, tea or spices. Since PLA is more sensitive to heat and moisture than PE, it is suited above all to dry products and not to freezing or hot filling — you should factor this into the product selection.

Frequently asked questions about the compostable PLA ziplock bags 50 microns

Are the PLA bags home or industrially compostable?

Industrially compostable to EN 13432 — they belong in the organic-waste bin and are broken down in industrial composting plants. They are not certified for the home compost heap.

What is PLA made of?

PLA (polylactide) is a bio-based plastic from renewable raw materials. Visually it is crystal-clear like conventional film, but in its life cycle compostable rather than petroleum-based and recyclable.

Are the bags suitable for coffee and tea?

Yes, that is a core use case. PLA offers display and aroma protection for roasted coffee and tea. For strongly degassing, freshly roasted coffee, you should clarify the need for an aroma valve with us separately.

Is PLA suitable for freezing?

No. Unlike LDPE, PLA is not designed for deep sub-zero temperatures, nor for hot filling. For frozen goods, a PE bag is the right choice.

Are the PLA bags food-grade?

Yes, certified to EC 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011. We provide the declaration of conformity (PIM) and migration test reports on request.

How often can the bags be resealed?

The double-lip ziplock closure withstands 30–50 opening cycles. This keeps the contents protected after the first opening — an advantage over simple compostable bags without a zip.

How do PLA differ from the rLDPE bags?

PLA is bio-based and industrially compostable (organic-waste bin); rLDPE is petroleum-based with recyclate content and recycled in the PE stream (recycling bin). You choose by disposal goal: compost or recycle.

Does PLA hold up with moist contents?

For dry products such as coffee, tea and spices, PLA is well suited. With permanently moist or greasy contents the barrier is lower than with PE — when in doubt, test a sample beforehand.

Which sizes are available for the PLA bags?

The available dimensions are shown in the order table above. We are happy to send you free samples of the standard sizes before your first order; special formats on request.
