What are stand-up pouches with zip closure?
Stand-up pouches with zip – also called resealable doypacks, stand-up pouches with press-to-close zip or reseal pouches – combine the standing doypack form with an integrated zip profile along the top. The pouch can be opened and resealed tightly as often as you like – typically 500+ cycles without any noticeable loss of seal integrity.
The zip closure consists of two profiles that interlock when pressed together. Unlike classic ziplock bags (flat form), the stand-up variant additionally has the doypack bottom gusset for standing POS presentation.
Essential for consumer storage: muesli, coffee, tea, spices and dried fruits are taken out in portions, while the rest stays aroma-safe and moisture-protected. Considerably more convenient than pouches without a zip (resealed with a bag clip).
Material: composite film with aroma inner barrier (aluminum or PA/PE). Certified in accordance with EU 10/2011. Declaration of conformity on request.
What are stand-up pouches with zip used for?
Stand-up pouches with zip are the standard choice for consumer packaging with portion-wise removal.
- Coffee in 250–1000 g for private customers – repeated bean removal
- Loose tea blends for kitchen storage with aroma retention over weeks
- Spice assortments for kitchen pantry storage in the spice rack
- Muesli and granola for breakfast stock with repeated removal
- Dried fruits and nuts as snack storage
- Baking mixes for hobby bakers with portion-wise use
- Superfood powders (matcha, spirulina, maca) with repeated removal
For initial industrial packing without consumer contact, a zip is not needed – here plain heat sealing is sufficient.
Which stand-up pouches with zip suit your needs?
The right variant depends on the content and brand positioning.
- Standard composite film with zip – economical for non-aroma-sensitive foods
- Aluminum inner layer with zip – for coffee, tea, spices (aluminum variant)
- Kraft paper outer with zip – organic look (kraft paper variant)
- With window and zip – visible contents plus resealability
- With aroma valve and zip – for fresh coffee with consumer storage (premium standard)
- Size classes: 100 g for sample packs, 250–500 g standard, 1 kg and more for family format
Standard recommendation: zip + window + aluminum inner – the premium combination for POS.
Advantages of stand-up pouches with zip
Consumer convenience: Repeated opening and resealing without separate aids. Practically usable in the kitchen cupboard over weeks. A decisive convenience feature for consumers.
Aroma retention after first use: High-quality zip closures stay tight – after first use the aroma stays at premium level for 4–6 weeks (with aluminum inner). Considerably better than pouches without a zip.
High-impact at POS: Consumers prefer clearly resealable packaging. A visible zip closure is a selling signal. Faced with comparable products, the customer reaches for the zip variant. It costs a little more per pouch, but pays for itself through a higher margin.
Frequently Asked Questions about Stand-Up Pouches with Zip
How does the zip closure work?
The zip consists of two plastic profiles along the pouch opening. When pressed together they interlock and seal tightly. When pulled apart they open – repeatable as often as you like.
How often can the zip be opened?
High-quality zip closures last 500+ opening cycles without loss of seal integrity. With clean handling, considerably more reuses are also possible.
Does the zip stay functional after rinsing?
Gentle wiping with a damp cloth is no problem. Complete rinsing with water is possible, then let it dry. Avoid the dishwasher – high temperatures can deform the profile.
Zip position top or side?
Standard is along the top across the full width. For special applications, side-running zip closures are also possible as bespoke production.
Food-grade?
Yes – the zip material is made from food-grade PE/PP. The overall system (pouch + zip) is certified in accordance with EU 10/2011.
Suitable for fine powders?
With very fine powders (flour, baking powder), powder can get into the teeth of the zip profile. Blow out the profile before first filling. With oily powders or coffee this is less of a problem.
Can it be combined with an aroma valve?
Yes – the standard combination for fresh coffee: zip + aroma valve + aluminum inner. Valve for CO₂, zip for consumer convenience. A premium combination.
Recommended for POS sales?
Absolutely. Consumers prefer resealable packaging. It costs typically 5–10 % more per pouch, but pays for itself through a higher likelihood of sale at the POS.
What wall thickness?
Standard composite wall thickness 100–140 microns. The zip itself is 4–6 mm high. With correct sealing at the base, the doypack standing function is retained.
Possible with a window?
Yes – a very high-impact combination. Window in the opaque part, zip along the top across the full width. The aluminum barrier is reduced in the window area but fully retained in the other parts of the pouch.
Sensible for initial industrial packing?
For B2B containers (catering, industrial delivery), a zip is not needed – plain heat sealing is sufficient and cheaper. For direct sale to consumers, a zip is always worthwhile.
