Recycling film packaging is an important step worldwide to reduce plastic waste and keep valuable raw materials in circulation. Everyone can contribute: carefully separate film packaging from other waste, remove food residues and dispose of it via the designated collection systems. Modern recycling plants transform clean material into new granulate, from which packaging, bags or technical films are made again. Every correctly disposed-of film means less waste in nature, less resource consumption and a cleaner future – everywhere in the world.

The Block Bottom Bags with Sealed Edge 40 microns are crystal-clear standing bags made from OPP film with a 40 microns material thickness, whose box-shaped block bottom gives the bags secure standing on the shelf when filled. The all-round sealed edge closes the bags tightly and protects the aroma and freshness of dry products.

What you use the 40 microns block bottom bags for

This variant is designed for low-dust, dry bulk goods of moderate weight. Thanks to the crystal-clear OPP film, your customers see the contents immediately, without you needing a separate window. Typical applications are spices, tea, coffee, muesli, sweets and baking ingredients.

  • Spices and dry products in portion sizes
  • Roasted coffee and specialty coffee with aroma protection
  • Black, green, herbal and fruit tea
  • Confectionery and baked goods with a view of the contents

Material and properties

OPP (oriented polypropylene) is stiffer and more brilliant than soft LDPE and gives the bags the dimensional stability needed for the block bottom to stand up cleanly. The film is crystal-clear, food-grade to EC 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011 and, as a mono-material, sits in the PP stream – making it geared to PPWR recyclability from 2030. We send you the declaration of conformity (PIM) on request.

Choosing the right thickness: 40 or 50 microns

With 40 microns you choose the lighter, slightly more flexible film for predominantly powdery or fine-grained contents without sharp edges. If you have sharp-edged, heavier or particularly high-value products that need more stability and protection, the 50 microns variant is the better choice. If you need the natural paper look instead of film, the Natron block bottom bags are the alternative; for particularly heavy bulk goods, the 4-ply.

Frequently asked questions about the block bottom bags with sealed edge 40 microns

What material are the bags made of and why OPP?

The bags are made of OPP (oriented polypropylene) with a 40 microns thickness. OPP is stiffer and more crystal-clear than soft PE film, so the block bottom stands up dimensionally stable and the contents are shown off brilliantly.

How are the bags closed?

Via the all-round sealed edge. You fill the bags and seal the opening with a film welder or continuous sealer – the sealed edge keeps the contents tight and aroma-protected.

Is the 40 microns film food-grade?

Yes, the OPP film is certified for direct food contact to EC 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011. On request you receive the declaration of conformity (PIM) and, if desired, migration reports.

When are 40 microns enough and when do I need 50 microns?

40 microns is enough for light, powdery or fine-grained contents without sharp edges – such as spices, tea or powder. For sharp-edged, heavier or high-value contents you better choose the more stable 50 microns variant.

Do I still need a window with the clear film?

No. The OPP film is crystal-clear across the whole surface, so the contents are visible all around. A window is only worthwhile if you want to combine an opaque or paper variant with a viewing area – such as the Natron block bottom bags with window.

Does the bag protect the aroma of coffee and tea?

The closed sealed edge preserves dry aroma well. For freshly roasted coffee that releases CO₂, an aroma protection valve is additionally recommended – we arrange this individually if needed.

How do I dispose of the bags?

As pure polypropylene the bags belong in the recycling bin and can be recovered in the German PP recycling stream. As a mono-material they are geared to PPWR recyclability from 2030.

Does the block bottom hold the weight of my contents?

The box-shaped block bottom gives the filled bags secure standing. At 40 microns the film is designed for light to medium dry goods; for heavy or sharp-edged contents, 50 microns or the 4-ply block bottom bags are the more robust choice.

Can I get a sample in advance?

Yes. Before your first order we send you free samples of the standard sizes so you can check the film thickness, stability and clarity yourself. Simply enquire via the contact form.
