What are block bottom bags with window?

Block bottom bags with window combine the advantages of printed brand packaging with the persuasive impact of a clearly visible product. The window is a defined area of the film (typically 30–60% of the front) kept transparent, while the rest is printed with a logo, mandatory information and marketing messages. This way you get the best of both worlds: brand identity in the printing and product quality in the visibility.

The window is not just a design element but a sales decision. Anyone selling colourful dried fruit, credible premium nuts or handmade pralines will find the product itself attracts attention on the shelf. Brand promises such as “hand-picked” or “with no artificial colours” become instantly verifiable through the window – this builds trust and sets premium apart from mass-market items.

Our block bottom bags with window range is available in laminate films (PET/aluminum/PE) for maximum aroma protection – ideal for foods with high requirements. Alongside these we carry kraft paper bags with a window (often with a mono-PE window for recyclability) for organic and artisan brands. Fill sizes range from 50 g (sampler) up to 1 kg (family pack), with or without a zip closure, with or without an aroma protection valve for coffee applications.

What are block bottom bags with window suitable for?

  • Dried fruit & nuts: bright colours and quality directly visible on the shelf
  • Confectionery & pralines: the handmade look is made verifiable
  • Colourful muesli mixes: visual complexity as a selling point
  • Pasta specialities: coloured pasta, herb pasta, special shapes made visible
  • Premium baking ingredients: almonds, pistachios, dried berries
  • Pet food (premium): high-quality contents visible to end customers

Which window variant is the right one?

  • Laminate film with window: standard for aroma-demanding foods
  • Kraft paper with window: organic brands with a natural look plus product view
  • Mono-PE window: recyclable in the waste paper stream
  • Classic PET window: maximum clarity, glossy, a premium look
  • Narrow strip window shape: classic, understated, leaves printing area free
  • Oval window shape: a modern look, greater visibility
  • Full-area window shape: the product takes centre stage
  • With or without zip: resealability depending on end-customer use

Your advantages with window bags from Elke Plastic

Since 1976 we have imported packaging bags directly from the manufacturer and understand the technical challenges of window constructions. The window must be precisely positioned, the seam transitions between the printed and transparent zones must be tight, and the clear film must not differ visually from the printed outer layer. Our suppliers meet these requirements with consistent production quality.

Our packaging specialists advise on window position and shape: should the window be centred, at the top or to the side? A narrow strip or full-area? With or without logo overlap? These design questions have a major influence on shelf impact. We help you find the optimal variant for your product and target audience – rather than learning, after several print runs, which design works on the shelf.

Shipping is from our German warehouse. Standard sizes with a window are generally in stock; custom printing and window shapes are scheduled individually within the delivery window. All customers – B2B and B2C alike – receive volume pricing. Free samples for advance checking are a matter of course – test the window with your actual product.

Frequently asked questions about block bottom bags with window

When is a window worthwhile?

Whenever the product itself is a selling point: colourful dried fruit, handmade pralines, premium nuts, coloured pasta. If the contents are visually unremarkable (e.g. white flour, neutral powder), a window achieves little and fully printed packaging makes more sense.

What window size is optimal?

Rule of thumb: 30–50% of the front. Too small and the focus on the product is unclear; too large and too little area remains for brand printing. For premium brands, strip-shaped windows are often the more elegant solution; for mass-market items, large windows with a product-dominated look.

Is aroma lost through the window?

The window is made of clear film with the same barrier effect as the printed outer side. With laminate films that have an aluminum layer in the printed part and a PET clear window without aluminum, the aroma barrier is lower at the window. For extremely aroma-sensitive products, the window should be kept small or omitted entirely.

Is the window a problem under UV light?

Clear films barely filter UV light. For light-sensitive products (dried fruit with anthocyanins, some food colours) fading can be faster. For UV-sensitive products there are window films with a UV protection layer – talk to us for specific requirements.

Are the window bags recyclable?

Classic PET windows on an aluminum laminate are only of limited recyclability (residual waste). Mono-PE windows on a kraft paper outer layer can be recycled in the waste paper stream. Mono-material windows (all layers PE) are recyclable via the recycling collection.

Which film suits which product type?

For aroma-sensitive products: an aluminum laminate with a small PET window. For robust dry goods: a PET/PE laminate with a window. For organic brands: kraft paper with a mono-PE window. For maximum recyclability: mono-material throughout.

Does the window get damaged during heat sealing?

No, provided the window film matches the outer layer. With the correct material combination, the heat seal at the window is just as durable as in the printed area. With mismatched combinations, however, seam problems can occur – which is why advice is important.

How do you print around the window?

In gravure or flexo printing, the area of the window is left clear of print. The transitions between the printed and clear zones must be precisely registered – which places higher demands on the printing technology. We work with printers who have mastered this.

What run size makes sense?

Standard goods with predefined windows are available from the warehouse. A custom window position and shape become worthwhile from larger runs. For smaller runs, a standard position with custom printing is the most cost-effective route.

How durable are the window films?

Just as durable as standard films without a window. The clear zones are not a “weak point” but an integral part of the film. Tear resistance and heat-seal quality are identical.

Can I print an organic or FSC logo on kraft paper with a window?

Yes, provided the relevant certificates are in place. The window does not affect certification – the kraft paper must be FSC-certified, the window film separately. For mono-material recyclability, choosing the mono-PE window is important.
