What are side gusset sacks?
Side gusset sacks have two inward side folds – when filled they expand into a rectangular shape. As a result they fit perfectly into cartons, mesh boxes, containers or euro containers and make maximum use of the internal volume.
Made of robust LDPE, in different thicknesses depending on the application (40–200 microns). Unlike side gusset bags (for food), side gusset sacks are mostly designed for industry and logistics – larger, more robust, without food certification.
What are side gusset sacks used for?
- Box liners: as a lining for shipping cartons (moisture protection)
- Mesh boxes: lining for collective packaging in industry
- Waste: production scrap, workshop waste, hazardous substances
- Logistics: bulk goods packaging, large packs
- Construction industry: concrete residues, building waste, rubble sacks
- Recycling: collection of single-type materials
Which side gusset sacks do we offer?
- Side gusset sacks as liners for cartons – standard sizes
- Side gusset sacks as box liners – reinforced variants
- Side gusset sacks for mesh boxes – large format
- Side gusset sacks for industry and logistics – maximum stability
- Side gusset sacks for waste – for production scrap
Advantages of side gusset sacks

- Robust: designed for heavy and sharp-edged contents.
- Versatile: can be used as a liner, collection sack or waste sack.
- Recyclable: single-type in LDPE recycling.
- Various sizes: from carton format to mesh box format.
- B2B quantities: delivery by the pallet possible.
- Fast shipping from our German warehouse.
Material properties of side gusset sacks in detail
Side gusset sacks are large PE sacks with two incorporated side gussets for box-shaped stand-up and stacking capability. Standard application: box liners, mesh box lining, industrial waste, logistics.
LDPE 60–100 microns — standard variant
Low-density polyethylene, flexible and cost-efficient. The standard material thickness for dry industrial applications: bulk goods box liners, logistics packing, light industrial waste.
LDPE 100–150 microns — heavy-duty variant
Reinforced material thickness for heavier industrial applications: metal chips, production scrap, sharp-edged components in logistics. Higher tear and puncture resistance.
LDPE 150–200 microns — industrial heavy
Maximum material thickness for extreme stress: mesh box lining with sharp-edged contents, heavy-duty logistics, large-quantity packing. Industrial heavy-duty applications.
HDPE — vest-bag look
High-density polyethylene film with a crisp look and high tear resistance at a low material thickness. Popular for light industrial applications with a protection requirement.
Special shapes — flat bottom, bottom gusset
Beyond the standard side gusset construction, we produce sacks with an integrated flat bottom or bottom gusset for special filling and stand-up requirements.
Antistatic and ESD protection
On request, antistatic versions (ESD protection) for packaging electronic components — conductive additives in the material prevent static charging.
Material comparison at a glance
| Variant | Material | Thickness / property | Typical application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | LDPE | 60–100 microns | Box liners, logistics, light waste |
| Heavy-duty | LDPE | 100–150 microns, tear/puncture-resistant | Chips, production scrap |
| Industrial heavy | LDPE | 150–200 microns, extreme stress | Mesh box lining, sharp-edged |
| Vest-bag look | HDPE | thin & tear-resistant | Light industrial applications |
| Antistatic / ESD | LDPE + conductive additives | static-dissipative | Electronic components |
Individual customisation — formats, material thicknesses and packing
Side gusset sacks are produced in almost any size and material thickness — the standard is individually packed large quantities.
Formats
Freely selectable formats in width (300–1,500 mm), height (500–3,000 mm) and gusset depth (50–400 mm). Adaptation to carton, mesh box or storage container dimensions to specification.
Material thickness
Film thicknesses from 60 microns to 250 microns LDPE, in 10-micron steps. Choice according to contents and stress. On request, HDPE variants for higher tear resistance with lower material use.
Printing
Printing in flexo printing with up to 4 colours is possible, often with a company logo, safety markings or content identification. Full-surface printing is rarely required.
Minimum order quantity
Minimum order quantity from special size: 1,000–5,000 units depending on the format. Delivery time on request. Send an enquiry.
Sustainability — side gusset sacks in PE recycling
Side gusset sacks made of pure LDPE are mono-material and fully recyclable in the PE stream.
Mono-PE recycling in the commercial material stream
Commercial LDPE sacks are collected via industrial film collection systems (Interzero, Reclay, etc.) and recovered in the PE recycling stream. Collected single-type, they reach recyclate quality for industrial applications.
Recyclate sacks made of PCR
For commercial applications without food contact we process post-consumer recyclate with a 30–80 % share. Cost-efficient and environmentally beneficial. Standard application: waste sacks, box liners, logistics packing.
PPWR compliance
Side gusset sacks already meet the EU Packaging Regulation today, as they are mono-material. For producers placing goods on the market with extended recycling obligations, we advise on single-type collection concepts.
Material efficiency through optimal packing
Correctly dimensioned sacks significantly reduce material consumption. Advice on the optimal size specification for your containers on request.
Frequently asked questions about side gusset sacks
What is a side gusset sack?
A robust, large-volume LDPE film with side folds that create box-shaped volume when filled. Classic as a liner for cartons, mesh boxes and industrial packaging.
What is the difference from side gusset bags?
Side gusset sacks are larger and more robust – typical for industrial applications. Side gusset bags are the smaller variant for food packaging.
Which wall thicknesses are available?
Typically 80–200 microns. For especially heavy contents, 200–300 microns as custom production.
Which sizes are common?
Box liners: 250×150×400 to 600×400×1000 mm. Mesh box liners: 800×600×1200 mm. Big-bag liners: 1,000×600×2,000 mm. Special sizes on request.
Suitable for sharp-edged waste?
For sharp-edged waste (chips, glass shards) choose the extra strong variant 150+ microns or a special laminate film with impact protection.
Suitable for food liners?
Yes – with food-grade certification to EU 10/2011. For food industry packaging, a declaration of conformity is mandatory.
Corrosion protection with VCI possible?
Yes – with VCI-additivated film (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) for corrosion protection of metal parts as custom production.
Antistatic possible?
Yes – antistatic-treated films for the electronics industry as custom production.
How do I seal side gusset sacks?
With a film sealing machine (an industrial bar sealer for long seams). For thick films, adjust the sealing time to 5–10 seconds.
Suitable for big-bag liners?
Yes – this is one of the typical industrial applications. 150–200 microns LDPE side gusset sacks are standard for big-bag liners with bulk goods.
Recyclable?
Yes – fully recyclable in the PE loop (recycling collection). Also available in a GRS-certified recycled variant.
Printable with a logo?
Yes – for industrial packaging with a company logo, warning notices or content labelling. → Custom production.
Which design for mesh boxes?
Specifically side gusset sacks for mesh boxes in standardised internal dimensions for standard mesh boxes.
