What are transparent stand-up pouches?

Transparent stand-up pouches are self-standing doypacks made from crystal-clear composite films – typically PET/PE or PA/PE – that give a full view of the packed product. Unlike the metallised or printed standard doypacks, they rely on a simple truth in packaging marketing: if the product looks good, it is the best selling point. Colourful pasta mixes, sparkling bath salts, coloured sweets or vivid spice blends only unfold their effect when they are visible.

The structure remains classic doypack: a foldable K-base ensures secure standing on the shelf, the side seams are sealed by heat-sealing, and the pouch can optionally be fitted with a zip closure. PA/PE variants offer increased mechanical strength and are more stable when vacuuming, while PET/PE composites are especially cost-optimised and sufficient for standard applications.

Food-grade compliance in accordance with EU 10/2011 is standard with all our transparent stand-up pouches. They are available in sizes from 100 ml to 5 l, with or without a zip closure, optionally with a Euro hole for hanging presentation and in various film thicknesses for different protection requirements. For moist or greasy contents, the PA variant (with a polyamide outer layer) is the more robust choice.

What are transparent stand-up pouches suitable for?

  • Pasta, noodles & dry products: colourful interplay makes the product an eye-catcher
  • Confectionery & sweets: multicoloured mixes only unfold their effect behind a clear view
  • Bath salts & wellness products: sparkling crystals and coloured blossom mixes need visibility
  • Spice blends: curry, paprika, herbs – colours communicate quality
  • Craft & hobby materials: beads, glitter, wood pieces in material packaging
  • Pet food: snacks and treats present themselves as a premium product

Which transparent stand-up pouch suits your product?

  • Film structure: PET/PE for standard applications, PA/PE for robust or vacuum-capable solutions
  • Film thickness: 90–120 microns for light products, 150–200 microns for heavy or angular contents
  • Fill volume: small packs from 100 ml for sampling, standard sizes 250 ml–1 l, family packs up to 5 l
  • Closure: zip closure for resealability or plain heat sealing for one-time opening
  • Euro hole: yes/no – for hanging presentation in retail
  • Food-grade compliance: standard; for sensitive products a special migration test may be necessary
  • Printing: transparent film can be partially printed – logo, label window or brand strips can be combined

Your advantages with transparent doypacks from Elke Plastic

Elke Plastic has imported transparent packaging bags directly from the manufacturer since 1976. For you this means: you do not pay the intermediary's mark-up, but receive premium film quality on fair terms – even for small quantities. Stock items are immediately ready in the common sizes, with no minimum order value for private customers.

Transparent films place particular demands on machine compatibility. Composites that are too thin tear during automatic filling, films that are too rigid cannot be heat-sealed cleanly, and incorrect PA contents lead to wrinkling. Our packaging specialists help you find the optimal structure for your distribution and processing route – whether hand-filling in an artisan operation or a high-speed machine in contract filling.

All transparent stand-up pouches are shipped from our German warehouse. You receive free samples for testing before the main order. For private customers and smaller brands we have standard quantities from stock; for large buyers, graduated prices and individual printing. This way the packaging package always fits the size of your project.

Frequently Asked Questions about Transparent Stand-Up Pouches

When is a transparent stand-up pouch the right choice?

Whenever the product itself is the strongest selling point: colourful pasta, glossy sweets, vivid spices, sparkling bath salts. As soon as the appearance of the contents triggers a purchase impulse, transparency beats any marketing image on the packaging. For light-sensitive products (vitamins, tea, coffee), however, transparency is a disadvantage.

Which film is more transparent – PET/PE or PA/PE?

Both composites are highly transparent. PET/PE has a somewhat smoother, glossier look and is cost-optimised. PA/PE is mechanically more stable, is suitable for vacuum applications and scores with angular or heavy contents, but can appear slightly milkier. For a pure showcase look many choose PET/PE; for fresh-keeping in cold storage, rather PA/PE.

Are transparent doypacks food-grade?

Yes, all standard PET/PE and PA/PE doypacks are food-grade in accordance with EU 10/2011. For specific contents (high in fat, alcoholic, long-term storage) the data sheet should be checked – we supply migration tests and declarations of conformity on request.

How do you prevent fading with light-sensitive products?

Transparent films hardly filter UV light. For light-sensitive products (e.g. vitamin preparations, some food colourings) we recommend transparent films with a UV protection layer, or the combination of a large-format label + a small product window. Alternatively, switch to opaque or metallised variants.

How do you print transparent doypacks?

Transparent films are usually printed in rotogravure or UV digital print. Local brand prints (logo, banderole, mandatory information) can be implemented in any print method. Full-surface designs negate the effect of transparency – free-standing logos and strips that leave the product window clear are more economical.

Can I make vacuum packs with transparent doypacks?

Vacuuming works well with PA/PE variants. Pure PET/PE composites often lack the necessary oxygen barrier and mechanics. For sausage, cheese or ready meals you should opt for PA/PE or a composite with an EVOH layer.

What does the film thickness in microns mean?

Microns (micrometres) denote the total thickness of all film layers. 90 microns is standard for light contents, 90–120 microns for standard applications, 150 microns+ for heavy or angular products. Rule of thumb: better 20 microns more than calculated too tightly – a well-built pouch is cheaper than a complaint.

Are transparent stand-up pouches recyclable?

PET/PE and PA/PE composites are only recyclable to a limited extent (multi-layer composite). For full recyclability we have transparent mono-PE variants in the range, which are a little softer but are mono-material and suitable for the recycling bin.

Does the Euro hole go through the film?

Yes, the Euro hole is a punched hole at the top of the pouch – usually with a reinforced edge so it does not tear out. For hanging presentation in retail it is standard; for standing presentation on the shelf it is not needed.

How many pieces do I have to order at a minimum?

You order stock items on request – ideal for tests and sampling. Your own printing pays off from larger quantities. Which run is sensible for you depends on the printing process, design complexity and warehouse logistics – we are happy to advise you in detail.
