What Is Food-Grade Tubular Film?
Food-grade tubular film is the specialised variant for direct food contact. It meets the requirements of Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and is made from food-grade LDPE (standard) or PA/PE laminate (vacuum-capable). For bakeries, food producers and professional kitchens, EU 10/2011 compliance is mandatory.
Use in the food sector: bakeries use it to pack long stollen, loaves or bread slices. Sausage producers use it for sausage tubes and casings. Caterers use it for long salad rolls, wraps and prepared components. For all food applications that are too long or too irregular for standard bags, it is indispensable.
Our food-grade tubular film range covers typical food applications: tube widths 100–500 mm, film thicknesses 25–100 microns, LDPE or PA/PE laminate. Declarations of conformity to EU 10/2011 on request. For sous-vide applications, a sous-vide certified PA/PE variant. For bakeries needing breathability, special variants with micro-perforations are available.
What Is Food-Grade Tubular Film Suitable For?
- Bakeries: stollen, long loaves, bread-slice rolls
- Sausage producers: sausage tubes, casing packaging
- Catering: long salad rolls, wraps, prepared components
- Professional kitchens: vacuum packing in custom lengths
- Sous-vide applications: sous-vide certified films
- Food industry: automated packaging lines
Which Food Variant Is the Right One?
- LDPE 25–50 microns: light food applications
- LDPE 60–100 microns: more robust applications, heavy foods
- PA/PE laminate: vacuum packing, sous-vide
- With micro-perforations: bakeries needing breathability
- Tube width 100–200 mm: sausage, narrow applications
- Tube width 200–400 mm: standard bakery and catering
- Tube width 400–500 mm: wide food applications
- Declaration of conformity: on request for the HACCP file
Your Benefits with Food-Grade Tubular Film from Elke Plastic
We have been importing packaging films directly from the manufacturer since 1976. For food-grade tubular film, conformity documentation is decisive: HACCP-certified businesses need EU 10/2011 evidence for their QM file. On request, we supply declarations of conformity with migration data.
Our packaging specialists advise on bakery, sausage and catering applications. For stollen, standard LDPE films with breathability are ideal (micro-perforations). For sausage vacuum packing we recommend PA/PE laminate. For sous-vide, sous-vide certified variants.

Frequently Asked Questions About Food-Grade Tubular Film
What exactly does "food-grade" mean for tubular film?
Food-grade means: certified to EU Regulation 10/2011 and EC 1935/2004 for direct food contact, with no migration of harmful substances into the contents. On request we provide the declaration of conformity (PIM) with migration limits – this is what distinguishes certified food film from ordinary industrial film.
Which foods can I pack in it?
Dry and non-critical foods (bread, baked goods, flour, pasta, confectionery) are unproblematic. For foods containing fat, oil or alcohol, or those stored for long periods, we clarify the specific suitability via the migration data – send us the product and we will check conformity.
What material is food-grade tubular film made from?
Usually from food-grade virgin LDPE (no recycled content in direct contact). For higher barrier or heat requirements there is PA/PE laminate. Recycled-content films are only permitted for non-food use or as an outer layer.
Is the film suitable for freezing and hot filling?
Freezing down to -40 °C is unproblematic. For hot filling above approx. 80 °C, pure PE is not sufficient – here we recommend a PA/PE variant. Up to 70–80 °C, standard LDPE is stable.
Do I receive a declaration of conformity / data sheet?
Yes. For every food-grade tubular film we supply, on request, the declaration of conformity to EU 10/2011 as well as the data sheet – important for food businesses, HACCP documentation and audits.
Which thickness makes sense for food?
For bread and light baked goods, 30–50 microns is sufficient; for heavy or sharp-edged foods (frozen packs, bone-in products) 70–100 microns. The right thickness depends on weight and sharpness, not on the food alone.
Can food-grade film also be printed?
Yes – printing is applied to the outside using low-migration food-safe inks, so that food contact remains unaffected. Printing as a bespoke order with a minimum run.
How does it differ from film in the supermarket range?
Our food film is documented and certified (with declaration of conformity), in consistent industrial quality and available in over 100 widths/thicknesses. Household products rarely have a data sheet and are not suitable for commercial HACCP requirements.
Is it available without a minimum order quantity?
Yes, common food widths are stock items with no minimum order value and tiered pricing. Shipping from our German warehouse in 1–3 working days, declaration of conformity enclosed on request.
