Material properties of block bottom bags in detail
Block bottom bags are made from multi-layer film laminates that combine stability, barrier and printability. The characteristic four-seam base gives the bag a secure stand and enables premium presentation at the point of sale.
Kraft paper 60g / LDPE 50 microns — the paper standard
An outer layer of 60 g/m² kraft paper (natural or white), with 50 microns low-density polyethylene on the inside as a sealing layer and moisture protection. Visually craft-like, technically suited to dry foods: coffee, tea, muesli, snacks. OTR approx. 200 cm³/m²·24h — not for aroma-sensitive premium products.
Kraft paper / AL7 / LDPE — premium with an aluminum barrier
A three-layer laminate with a 7 microns aluminum barrier layer between the kraft paper outer and the PE inner. OTR < 0.1 cm³/m²·24h, a complete aroma and light barrier. For premium coffee, speciality tea and oxidation-sensitive artisan products.
PET12 / AL7 / LDPE110 — high-barrier transparent
A classic aluminum laminate without a paper wrap. An outer layer with a high-gloss print look, a complete aroma, light and oxygen barrier. Identical to our aluminum stand-up pouch variants in terms of barrier values.
PE / EVOH / PE — mono-PE recyclable
A mono-material laminate with a thin EVOH barrier layer (< 5% share). Recyclable in the PE stream, NIR-detectable. OTR approx. 1–3 cm³/m²·24h — a sufficient barrier for dry products with a medium shelf-life requirement. Meets PPWR requirements from 2030.
Kraft paper / PLA — compostable
A laminate of a kraft paper outer and a polylactic acid inner film, certified to EN 13432 for industrial composting. Suitable only for dry foods, as PLA degrades in the presence of moisture.
All materials are certified for food contact in accordance with EU Regulation 10/2011. We provide a declaration of conformity (PIM) with every order on request.

Sustainability and the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR)
From 2030, the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) changes the requirements for plastic packaging: all packaging must be recyclable or compostable. Multi-layer laminates with aluminum fall outside material recycling. Our block bottom bag range is prepared for these requirements.
Mono-material PE for single-stream recycling
Our PE/EVOH/PE block bottom bags are recyclable in the PE stream. The thin EVOH barrier layer (< 5% share) complies with the RecyClass design guidelines and is uncritical in the recycling process.
Compostable kraft paper/PLA variants
For organic brands we offer industrially compostable block bottom bags made from kraft paper and PLA, certified to EN 13432. Breaks down without residue under industrial conditions (58 °C, controlled humidity) within 12 weeks. Disposal belongs in the organic waste bin, not in home compost.
PPWR migration path for aluminum laminates
Aluminum high-barrier laminates remain technically without an equivalent substitute for aroma-sensitive products, but from 2030 they may only be used within the scope of technical exemptions. We advise on the gradual switch to mono-material solutions — typically with a hybrid range.
