Buy Flat Bags – LDPE Polybags Straight from Stock, Food-Grade & in All Sizes

Flat bags – also known as polybags – are the most economical bag design. Two film layers, three sides welded, one open side for filling. The lowest unit cost of all bag types, broadly usable from food packaging to e-commerce.

In our range you'll find flat bags transparent, food-grade, extra strong for sharp-edged contents, for shipping, for textiles as well as mini and XL.

Closure classically by heat sealing with a film welder, alternatively a bag clip or adhesive tape. For reclosable, choose ziplock bags instead.

What are flat bags?

Flat bags are the simplest bag form: two film layers lying on top of one another, welded on three sides, with one open side for filling. No special closures, no stand-up function – but very economical per unit and versatile in use.

The material is usually LDPE or HDPE, depending on the desired look and tear resistance. For direct food contact, additionally certified to EU 10/2011.

What are flat bags suitable for?

  • Food: baked goods, snacks, confectionery (food-grade variant)
  • Spare parts: screws, fuses, small parts
  • Clothing: T-shirts, underwear, fashion shipping
  • Books & print: protective shipping bags
  • Gifts: standard packaging with a bow
  • Advertising: samples, sampling, mailings

Material properties of flat bags in detail

Flat bags are the simplest and best-selling packaging form, made of polyethylene or polypropylene. The material thickness and film type determine tear resistance, transparency and printability.

LDPE 50 microns — standard variant

Low-density polyethylene, flexible, clear transparent, cost-effective. The standard solution for light contents: textiles, small parts, shipping fill. Tear resistance for contents up to approx. 1 kg.

LDPE 100 microns — extra strong

Double material thickness for sharp-edged or heavy contents: tools, metal parts, industrial goods. Higher puncture resistance, suitable for shipping with higher stress requirements.

HDPE 25 microns — vest-bag look

High-density polyethylene film with a crackling look and high tear resistance at a low material thickness. The classic fruit-and-vegetable bag in food retail.

OPP 30 microns — transparent premium bag

Oriented polypropylene with crystal-clear brilliance and high stiffness. For presentation packaging, gift items, printed matter. Printable in flexo or gravure print.

Food-grade variant

LDPE and OPP films are certified to EU Regulation 10/2011 for direct food contact. Declaration of conformity on request. Suitable for dry and unpackaged foods: baked goods, confectionery, fruit, vegetables.

Standard delivery form: block-glued in 100 or 1,000 units, alternatively loose in a carton. Printed variants on a roll or die-cut.

Custom adaptation — sizes, printing and converting

Flat bags are the most versatile packaging type and can be freely converted.

Printing processes

Printing in the flexo print process with up to 8 colours, including Pantone special colours and a white underprint for text on transparent film. Full-surface printing across the entire outer face is possible.

Special sizes

Freely selectable formats in width (50–700 mm) and height (60–900 mm). Material thickness optionally 50, 60, 80, 100 or 150 microns. On request with Euro hole punching, side gussets, bottom gusset or tear notch.

Converting

Delivery form optionally block-glued, loose in a carton or wound on a roll — depending on your packaging line. For automated filling we supply roll stock with defined perforation.

We clarify the minimum quantity and delivery time individually following your enquiry, from print approval.

Sustainability and the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR)

Flat bags made of pure LDPE, HDPE or OPP are mono-material and therefore PPWR-compliant from 2030.

Mono-material recycling

Pure PE bags are classified as polyethylene in German sorting plants via near-infrared detection (NIR) and fed into the PE recycling stream. OPP bags are assigned analogously to the PP stream. Both materials are established in the German sorting system.

Recyclate processing

For commercial applications without food contact, on request we process post-consumer recyclate (PCR) with contents of 30–80%. For food contact, the PCR content is limited due to EU requirements.

Recyclable printing inks

On request we use printing inks compliant with the RecyClass design guideline, which do not impair the recycling process. Standard inks are nitrocellulose-based.

Material efficiency through downgauging

Where technically possible, we advise on material savings through thinner films: 50 microns instead of 60 microns saves approx. 17% material at comparable functionality.

Frequently asked questions about flat bags

What is a flat bag?

An economical pack made of two film layers lying on top of one another, welded on three sides, with one open side for filling. Synonyms: polybag, flat PE bag, plastic bag.

What is the difference from ziplock bags?

Flat bags have no integrated closure; they are welded or clipped shut. Ziplock bags have a zip profile. For reclosable, see ziplock bags.

Are flat bags food-grade?

Only the explicitly certified ones → food-grade flat bags to EU 10/2011 with a declaration of conformity.

How do I close a flat bag?

Heat sealing with a film welder (impulse or bar sealer), bag clip, adhesive tape or cable tie. For reclosable, choose ziplock bags instead.

Which wall thickness do I need?

40–60 microns for light contents, 60–80 microns standard, 100+ microns for heavy or sharp-edged contents (→ extra strong).

Suitable for clothing shipping?

Yes → flat bags for textiles in suitable sizes for T-shirts, jumpers, fashion shipping.

For e-commerce shipping?

Yes → flat bags for shipping as an economical polybag solution. For mailing bags with an adhesive closure, see the shipping & bags range.

Mini and XL sizes?

Yes – small flat bags from 50×80 mm and large flat bags up to 500×700 mm and more.

Food-grade flat bags for freezing?

Yes – LDPE stays flexible down to approx. −50 °C and is freezer-suitable. For frequent freeze-thaw cycles, a heavier wall thickness (80–120 microns) is recommended.

Are HDPE flat bags possible?

Yes – on request we supply HDPE flat bags (cracklier, higher tear resistance per wall thickness).

Printable with a logo?

Yes – flexo print (low-cost, from a larger run), gravure print (premium), digital print (small quantities). → custom-made.

Are special sizes possible?

Yes – in almost any size you wish. For individual requirements → request a custom-made product.

Sustainable flat bags?

Yes – from recycled LDPE with a GRS certificate → sustainable variant or with recycled content.

Which design is the cheapest?

Flat bags are the most economical bag design – the lowest material use, simple converting. For an upright display, stand-up pouches; for a premium box form, block bottom bags.
