Sorted by application: coffee, tea, spices, bakery, patisserie, confectionery. By construction: stand-up pouches, flat bags, ziplock.

Material choice depends on the contents: PE films for dry foods, laminated films for moist/greasy, aluminum laminate for aroma-sensitive contents (coffee, tea, spices). A declaration of compliance is supplied on request.

What is food packaging?

Food packaging is any packaging suitable for direct contact with food. It must meet strict legal requirements – in the EU above all Regulation 10/2011 for plastic materials as well as the German LFGB (Food and Feed Code).

Food-grade packaging is free from critical plasticisers, harmful printing inks on the inside and pigments containing heavy metals. It does not release harmful substances into the food and does not negatively affect taste, smell or appearance.

In our range you will find food-grade bags, films, carrier bags and pouches made from PE, PP, PET, food-grade kraft paper and aluminum laminate – with aroma protection, light-tightness or a resealable function depending on the application.

What is food packaging used for?

  • Bakery: bread roll bags, bread bags, confectioner's bags for pastries and baked goods
  • Coffee roastery: aroma-protection bags with valve for freshly roasted beans
  • Tea manufactory: aroma-protecting bags and laminated stand-up pouches
  • Spice trade: light-tight and moisture-proof laminated bags
  • Confectionery: cone bags, flat bags and stand-up pouches

Material properties of food packaging in detail

Food packaging covers all bag and film forms with direct food contact. Material choice depends on the product category, moisture, fat content and shelf-life requirements.

Polyethylene (LDPE/HDPE)

The standard material for dry and moist foods: baked goods, fruit, vegetables, freezer preparation. EU 10/2011 certified. LDPE flexible and transparent, HDPE crinkly and firm. Standard material thickness 50–100 microns.

Polypropylene (OPP/CPP)

For foods with higher temperature resistance (hot-fill sauces, soups, convenience products). CPP sterilisable up to 121 °C, OPP brilliantly transparent. Both materials certified to EU 10/2011.

Aluminum laminates (PET/AL/LDPE)

A high-barrier solution for aroma-sensitive and long-life foods: coffee, spices, powder blends, dried soups. OTR < 0.1 cm³/m²·24h, shelf life up to 24 months possible.

Kraft paper with PE inner side

Breathable packaging with grease and moisture protection inside. Standard for bakeries, patisseries, snacks for immediate consumption. Crafted appearance, technically suited to short shelf life.

Mono-PE and mono-PP — PPWR-compliant

Mono-material laminates with an EVOH barrier layer (< 5%) meet the EU Packaging Regulation from 2030. NIR-detectable in German sorting plants, compliant with the RecyClass design guideline.

Mandatory information and compliance

All food packaging can be printed in accordance with the FIC (Food Information to Consumers Regulation) — nutrition table, ingredients list, allergen information, best-before date. Declaration of compliance (PIM) and migration test reports on request.

Custom adaptation – bag shapes, sizes and FIC printing

Food packaging is manufactured in almost any size, shape and material — from the 10 g sample bag to the 5 kg catering format.

Bag shapes

We manufacture stand-up, block bottom, cross bottom, side gusset, flat, sealed edge and ziplock bags. The bag shape is chosen according to the product, the filling method and the presentation requirement.

Printing processes

Printing in gravure with up to 10 colours, including Pantone spot colours, metallic effects and spot varnish. Complete FIC-compliant layout design including mandatory information.

Additional features

Aroma valve, zipper, tin-tie closure, window, Euro hole, tear notch, bottom flap — functionally optimised adaptation to your product requirement.

Minimum order quantity and advice

Minimum order quantity depends on the bag shape: 10,000–25,000 pieces. Lead time on request. For brand design and FIC-compliant layout advice, our technical team is available. Submit an enquiry.

Sustainability and the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR)

The EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) is the biggest regulatory change to the food packaging industry in the last 30 years. We guide food manufacturers through the transition path.

Mono-material strategy

Mono-PE and mono-PP are the future-proof solutions for the majority of food packaging. NIR-detectable in German sorting plants, recyclable in the PE/PP stream. RecyClass-compliant.

Aluminum laminates after 2030

Aluminum high-barrier laminates remain technically indispensable for aroma-sensitive premium products (specialty coffee, high-quality spices). The PPWR provides for technical exemptions here, though with extended recycling obligations for those placing products on the market.

Compostable packaging for organic brands

Kraft paper/PLA laminates to EN 13432 for direct marketers, organic brands and farm shops with a short food turnover. Industrially compostable, not suitable for home composting.

Reduced material use and PCR

Where possible we advise on film thinning and post-consumer recyclate processing. For packaging without direct food contact (secondary packaging), PCR contents of up to 80% are possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Food Packaging

What does EU 10/2011 mean?

The EU regulation on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. It defines migration limits and requires regular testing. Valid EU-wide.

What is LFGB?

The Food, Commodities and Feed Code – the German implementation of the EU requirements. LFGB compliance = the material meets the German requirements for food contact.

Do I get a declaration of compliance?

Yes – on request we supply the declaration of compliance to EU 10/2011 (and LFGB where applicable). Important for food businesses, bakeries, caterers and restaurants as the party placing products on the market.

Which packaging for which food?

Dry (bread, spices): almost all PE films. Moist (sausage, cheese): laminated films. Aroma-sensitive (coffee, tea): aluminum laminate. Alcohol/vinegar: prior testing recommended.

Freezer-safe?

LDPE remains flexible down to approx. −50 °C. Food-grade film constructions are generally freezer-safe. For frequent freeze-thaw cycles a thicker wall (80–120 microns) is recommended.

Microwave-safe?

Standard LDPE is heat-resistant up to approx. 80 °C. For microwave use there are special heat-resistant films available as custom production.

Which packaging for vacuum sealing?

For vacuum packing, use structured vacuum film or sealed edge bags. Standard flat film is not suitable for vacuum.

Which packaging for bread and rolls?

For bakery, see bakery packaging: cone bags, cross bottom bag film, paper carrier bags. For bread shipping, food-grade flat bags.

Which packaging for cheese and sausage?

For cheese/sausage, laminated films with an oxygen barrier layer or sealed edge bags for vacuum packing. For direct marketers in the farm shop, often stand-up pouches.

Which packaging for honey and jam?

Honey/jam in jars or stand-up pouches with a spout. Get in touch for advice on liquid pouches.

Which packaging for salad and vegetables?

For breathable packaging, micro-perforated film or open vest carrier bags. For longer shelf life, MAP films (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) as custom production.

Which packaging for take-away and snack bars?

For to-go: paper carrier bags, food-grade paper carrier bags, food-grade cone bags for chips/snacks.

Printable with FIC mandatory information?

Yes – with logo, best-before field, mandatory information, allergen notices per FIC. Food-grade printing inks. → custom production.

Is there sustainable food packaging?

Yes – kraft paper constructions, compostable materials to EN 13432, recycled LDPE with GRS certificate. → sustainable packaging.
